ABOUT DAN RUSSELL

From a scrawny, bullied kid from southern Idaho to unofficial champion of the world, Dan Russell knows the kind of hard work, pain, and intense desire it takes to finish strong.

He’s a four-time NCAA Champion and four-time Academic All-American. He was an Olympic alternate for the 1992 and 1996 Olympics and the 2004 Olympic wrestling coach for Guam and Olympic Solidarity Instructor for Palau and Federated States of Micronesia.

Dan taught for several years at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Dan now lives in the Middle East as a USA Wrestling Ambassador for Peace. He is known worldwide as a wrestling clinician and motivational speaker at colleges, businesses and non-profit groups around the world.

NCAA CHAMPION

AND ALL-AMERICAN

As an athlete Dan was a four-time NCAA Champion as well as a four-time Academic All-American. He was the State High School Champion four years in a row and was undefeated his entire high school career. Dan was an Olympic alternate for the 1992 and 1996 Olympics and was named the 1995 Unofficial Champion of the World.

Only two U.S. athletes have ever won the Podubbny Tournament. Olympian Shawn Sheldon brought home a title in 1989 and Dan Russell was a champion in 1995.

THE OLYMPICS

Dan is currently works with the USA Wrestling National Coaching Staff. He has coached numerous World Wrestling Championships and was an Olympic Coach at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. His latest coaching assignment brought home a silver medal for the US team at the World Cup in Anatalya, Turkey in March 2007.

 

He has been an Olympic Solidarity Instructor for Palau, Guam, and the Federated States of Micronesia. Through wrestling, he has represented the United States in 45 nations.

DAN PUBLISHES HIS FIRST BOOK
 

In 2015, Dan Russell published his first book, Finish Strong. The book tells the incredible story of a driven man’s pursuit of success and finding purpose when all seems lost. It is the story of a wrestler, struggling not just against his opponents in the ring, but to discover what makes a true champion.
